A native North American variety long valued as food and for its polyphenol antioxidants, which are beneficial to urinary tract health. Eden selected organic, hand harvested cranberries infused with organic apple juice concentrate and slowly dried. They are lightly misted with organic sunflower oil to prevent clumping. Handy re-sealable packaging. No refined sugar or sulfites added. Naturally very low in sodium with no salt added. Deliciously sweet and mildly tangy. Convenient, protective re-sealable pouch.

Organic Decaf Coffee Part 1

-

http://mushroomcoffee.wordpress.com/

There is something which keeps pricking every coffee lover around the world, and that is the presence of caffeine in it. Then, like all other crops, there might be toxic chemicals creeping into it from the artificial fertilizers and pesticides used. This keeps them from enjoying their cup to its full since they know very well that both caffeine and the chemical residues in coffee are harmful for health. But can we imagine coffee without caffeine and that too without fertilizers or pesticides used on it?

Yes! We can. There is a coffee called Organic Decaf Coffee which comes with solutions to all your problems. It neither contains caffeine nor those toxic chemical residues discussed above. But how did such a coffee come into being? What exactly it is? Where is it available? There are several questions whose answers have to be found out. Let’s do it then!

Organic Coffee: Most of you might be familiar with the term “Organic” and what it means. For those who are not, let me give you some hints. The most general interpretation of the recommendations, laid down by various governing agencies such as USDA or NPOP etc., necessary to be followed by a product for being labeled as organic is that it should neither contain any artificial or synthetic substances or chemicals (that means, no chemical fertilizers or pesticides can be used while growing them or no chemicals can be used while processing them) nor should it obtained from or contain Genetically Modified Organisms.

Further, for products like coffee, the crop or the product can neither be treated with sewage sludge nor be subjected to any kind of radiations. They can neither be packed in such packets from which they are chemically contaminated (like metallic salts, colours and other chemicals from the pack dissolving into the contents. So, any coffee that fulfills above requirements can be called Organic Coffee.

Is Red Wine Heart Healthy – Resveratrol and Antioxidants

-

antioxidants benefitsDoes the antioxidants and resveritrol in red wine make wine heart healthy? In 1991, 60 Minutes aired a story titled “The French Paradox.” Morley Safer, the 60 Minutes corespondent, reported that the French have a lower rate of heart attacks due to their diet of cheese and wine.
We know now that it isn’t the alcohol in wine that offers the protective heart-health benefits, but rather resveratrol and antioxidants. Resveratrol is the main compound found in red wine that is credited with preventing heart disease. Studies have documented that resveratrol produces a variety of cardioprotective benefits. Most red wines contain 0.30‒1.07 mg of resveratrol per 5-ounce glass [2]. That amount of resveratrol is too low to be of any significance. In comparison, 1 cup of red grapes contains 0.24‒1.25 mg of resveratrol, and 1 cup of boiled peanuts contains 0.32‒1.28 mg of resveratrol.
Red wine also contains antioxidants, specifically oligomeric procyananidins, a group of antioxidants called polypherols. Dr. Roger Corder, Professor of Experimental Therapeutics at the Center for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics, has found that the amount of polypherols in red wine varies greatly. Wines from southwest France contain the most polypherols [3], about 200‒300 grams per 8-ounce glass . But the same amount of polypherols found in the best French wines can be found in one Granny Smith or Red Delicious apple at a fraction of the cost [4]. Cinnamon, cocoa, grape seeds and skin, cranberries, and both green and black tea also contain polypherols.
While wine does contain both resveratrol and antioxidants, which are good for your health, it also contains alcohol, which is not. As I discussed in part 1 of this series, alcohol is a toxin. When it’s present, your body shuts down all other metabolic functions to focus on removing the alcohol. Any health benefits that are gained from the resveratrol and the antioxidants are canceled out by the alcohol. In “The Red Wine Hypothesis,” published in The European Heart Journal, researchers stated, “The conclusive studies showing that red wine has qualities ‘beyond alcohol’ are those on de-alcoholized (my emphasis) red wine, which has cardiovascular protective effects in short term studies on humans” [5]. In other words, wine provides health benefits when the alcohol is removed, but wine that contains alcohol is no different than any other alcoholic beverage. Both resveratrol and antioxidants can be obtained in greater quantity from naturally healthy food sources that don’t contain alcohol.
